Codes of Conduct Standards

Lions Volleyball Club will reflect the Code of Ethics and Conduct documentation of:

LIONS Coaches Code of Conduct

The coach-athlete relationship is a privileged one and plays a critical role in the personal, sport, and athletic development of the athlete. Coaches must understand and respect the inherent power imbalance that exists in this relationship and must be extremely careful not to abuse it, consciously or unconsciously.

We expect COACHES to:
  • Be knowledgeable of their activity and be able to demonstrate and reinforce its skills.
  • Always exemplify the very best courtesy, manners, and sportsmanship.
  • Work with the players on their teams in promoting harmony and cooperation and exceptional team culture.
  • Exhibit the highest possible level of fairness in dealing with all players and parents.
  • Communicate effectively with players and parents in matters related to the activity.
  • Make decisions as necessary to keep the activity running smoothly and efficiently.
  • Support club policy.
  • Be modest in victory and gracious in defeat.

Lions Athletes Code of Conduct

We expect LIONS ATHLETES to:
  • Respect the position, decisions, and the requests of the coach.
  • Always exemplify the very best courtesy, manners and sportsmanship in all Lions Volleyball Club events in a manner reflective of our Mission, Vision and Values.
  • Accept and act upon favourably the policies and procedures of Lions Volleyball Club.
  • To always give the very best possible effort in practice and at competitions.
  • To be faithful in attending practice and competitions and to our values.
  • Work together to further the mission of the team in a culture rich environment.
  • Be modest in victory and gracious in defeat.

Please note:

For all of our competitive teams 16U and older, Lions Volleyball Club does not guarantee 100% equal playing time on any team or at any event, which is in keeping with other clubs in the province. It is the club philosophy that our coaches are the best qualified and equipped to make playing time decisions.

Some of the criteria coaches may use to decide playing time are as follows:

Attendance, Attitude, Effort, Performance, Skill level, Athlete potential, Leadership

For developmental teams, the focus is more on skill development of all players, and therefore playing time may be more equal, however the above criteria may apply where the coach and/or team deems necessary.

Lions PARENT Code of Conduct

The essential elements of character-building and ethics in sports are embodied in the concept of sportsmanship and six core principles: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and good citizenship. The highest potential of sports is achieved when competition reflects these “six pillars of character.”

We expect PARENTS to:
  • Encourage their child’s participation in sport, support club and the team by encouraging sportsmanship and by showing respect and courtesy for all players, coaches, officials and spectators at every game, practice and other sporting event
  • Inform the coach of any physical disability or ailment that may affect the safety of my child or the safety of others.
  • remind their child that doing one’s best is more important than winning, so that my child will never feel defeated by the outcome of a game or his/her performance. The Lions Way is we either win or we learn – both are extraordinarily positive.
  • Promote a sports environment for their child that is free from drugs, tobacco, and alcohol and I will refrain from their use at all sports events.
  • Support the decisions made by the coach during games and practices. Any disagreements will be brought to the attention of the coach(es) through the proper channels, according to Lions Volleyball Club policy.

I agree that if I fail to abide by the aforementioned rules and guidelines, I will be subject to disciplinary action as outlined by Lions Volleyball Club policy and/or Volleyball Alberta Policy.
